YASSAMIN ANSARI

Yassamin Ansari was born and raised in Arizona as the daughter of Iranian immigrants. She is a member of the Phoenix City Council and completed a term as Vice Mayor of Phoenix at the end of 2023. Yassamin was first elected to the City Council in 2020, becoming the youngest woman to serve on the Council and the first Iranian American elected to political office in Arizona. Yassamin began her career as an advisor to the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, contributing to the emergence of the Paris Climate Agreement. Later, she worked with California Governor Jerry Brown as a deputy policy director for the Global Climate Action Summit and served as a senior policy advisor to current UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In Congress, Yassamin will continue to be a leader in combatting the climate crisis and will be a champion for migrants and refugees at home and abroad.
