Former Congressman endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 1, 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Rep. Mondaire Jones for election as the Representative from New York’s Seventeenth Congressional District.

“Mondaire Jones is a powerful advocate for fully funding and supporting our diplomatic corps and ensuring that we lead with our values on the world stage. That’s why we’re proud to endorse him and why we’re excited to see him back in Congress,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “Mondaire knows that Americans are safer, and more prosperous, when we work with our allies and partners to defend democracy, invest in new clean energy jobs, and lead with diplomacy. His commitment to these principles was reflected in his 100% score on our legislative scorecard in his last term and we look forward to working closely with him during his next term.”

Rep. Mondaire Jones was first elected to Congress in 2020, becoming the first openly gay, Black member to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was unanimously chosen by his colleagues to serve in House leadership (the Democratic Steering Committee) and was later named the most legislatively active freshman in Congress. In the 117th Congress, Rep. Jones served on the Judiciary Committee, the Education and Labor Committee, and the Ethics Committee. Throughout his term, Rep. Jone was a key advocate for diplomacy-first foreign policy and supported efforts to fully fund the State Department, increase the sustainability of U.S. defense and security infrastructure, and eliminate waste in the defense budget. Previously, Rep. Jones worked in the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy and served as a litigator in the Westchester County Attorney's Office. He now serves as a Commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
