Foreign Policy for America Endorses Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) for Re-Election 

Leading Representative endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Representative Lauren Underwood for re-election. As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, Representative Underwood is running to represent Illinois’ fourteenth district for a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

"Lauren Underwood has quickly emerged as a highly effective lawmaker and a vital advocate for principled American engagement in the world,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “As the U.S. continues to grapple with COVID-19, Lauren has brought her experience as a public health expert to push for a robust pandemic response that reflects our values as a country. That’s why we’re proud to support Lauren and look forward to doing all we can to help her win again in 2022.” 

Prior to serving in Congress, Underwood worked in healthcare and is both a registered nurse and health policy expert. In the Obama administration, Underwood was appointed to serve as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). During this time, Underwood's work focused on helping communities across the country prevent, prepare for, and respond to public health emergencies, disasters, and bioterror threats. At HHS, Underwood also helped implement the Affordable Care Act. In her time in Congress, Underwood has used her public health expertise to lead on advancing global health security and promoting global women’s rights.  

Underwood joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), and Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07). Our endorsed candidates are chosen because of their consistent leadership in favor of diplomacy-first foreign policy.
