Lauren Underwood served as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. At HHS, Underwood helped communities address disasters, bioterror threats, and public health emergencies, and was responsible for supporting the federal response to domestic and international public health disasters such as the Ebola outbreak, Zika, and MERS-CoV. Last Congress, Underwood served as Vice Chair of the Homeland Security Committee. Underwood now serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, where she continues to be a leader in safeguarding democracy and rallying support for bold U.S. leadership in the global response to COVID-19.
